Profile
Backstory
Hiro designed sets for touring puppet theaters, fitting entire scenes into crates that never seemed large enough. He became obsessive about how far one useful movement could reach. The morning court gave him five bodies to arrange and, to his enduring frustration, five opinions about where they belonged.
What drives them
Build a possession with no wasted step, then accept that someone else’s extra movement may have a purpose he missed.
Allies, rivals & friction
Marisol supplies observations; he wants them reduced to one usable fact. Walt’s cheerful shuffling irritates him until it works. Sora Han is an admired fellow arranger; Petra Rook’s elaborate two-screen formation looks scandalously expensive in steps.
Room to grow
Can choose a useful extra step without treating adaptation as a failure of discipline.
The signature
One Step Is Plenty
He holds an off-ball screen with a conspicuously narrow stance, then takes precisely one long lateral step after the cutter clears to seal a second path; an impatient defender travels the whole arc while he scarcely moves.
The rules & the counter
The initial screen must already be legal, and the second step begins only after the cutter clears. An early reverse cut or a quick pass away makes the saved distance irrelevant. He has normal reach and needs recovery time.
The weakness
He sometimes conserves a step he actually needs to take.
When it works
The celebration
Shows one raised finger, then points to the lone footprint he considers necessary.
When it falls apart
The losing reaction
Adds one small corrective step after the whistle and mutters that he had allowed too little.
The constants
Always this character
77-year-old Japanese adult; white crop, thick brows, lined face, sinewy long arms; precision is a learned craft, never an ethnic gag.
