Backstory
Malik repaired secondhand arcade cabinets for Black Lantern and could hear when a rhythm-game button was registering a fraction late. He treated shooting practice as another way to investigate timing until Nyx pointed out that opponents were not obligated to keep the beat. This offended him productively.
What drives them
Turn rhythm into a weapon while accepting that a teammate’s off-beat solution can still be musically and tactically useful.
Allies, rivals & friction
Petra likes his dependable pace; Nyx deliberately alters counts and earns his longest stares. Leon Baptiste seems to release on a private clock. Darius Cole’s performance pause is the only musical disagreement Malik enjoys debating at length.

Can recover immediately from a broken rhythm instead of spending the next beat proving where it belonged.
The signature
Drop the Beat
Behind a set screen he synchronizes two low dribbles with two emphatic heel stamps, allows the defender to match the beat, then takes a silent quick third gather and rises to shoot off the broken rhythm.
The rules & the counter
Two stamped dribbles and the silent gather must be visibly distinct. He needs legal ball control and separation from the screen. A defender watching his center rather than listening to his feet can contest normally.

A badly timed teammate cut can distract him more than the defender who caused it.
