Profile
Backstory
Portia practiced riding patterns at Northlake until every turn matched the chalk marks, then applied the same merciless standards to its evening basketball run. She labeled each ball by grip wear and each session by the flaw she meant to remove. Blair recruited her because the shot was excellent; Portia insists “excellent” still describes unfinished work.
What drives them
Be feared for the craft she earned, then find an identity that survives one imperfect performance.
Allies, rivals & friction
Crispin’s effortless act irritates her because she has seen the drills. Astrid offers the blunt reassurance Portia claims not to need. Viv Mercado revels in ugly makes; Mei Tan understands why a successful result can still feel technically wrong.
Room to grow
Can accept useful imperfection without abandoning the disciplined practice that makes her dangerous.
The signature
Again, Properly
She gives one exaggerated demonstration of perfect shooting alignment without releasing, waits for the defender to reach toward the displayed ball, then snaps it down into a side step and takes the real mechanically identical jumper.
The rules & the counter
The displayed alignment is one controlled fake; her planted foot and gather remain legal. A defender who attacks the passing option instead of the ball does not need to bite. A rushed side step disrupts her own preferred mechanics.
The weakness
One ugly miss can make her rebuild the next shot consciously, slowing a skill that usually works by instinct.
When it works
The celebration
Briefly checks the line of her shooting fingers, then allows herself the smallest satisfied nod.
When it falls apart
The losing reaction
Gives an exact technical diagnosis before anyone has asked whether she is upset.
The constants
Always this character
Adult Chinese woman, angular jaw, focused dark eyes, long black hair and defined athletic arms. Her perfectionism is personal and practiced; ethnic identity does not imply automatic talent.
