Profile
Backstory
Maeve rebuilt worn motorcycle saddles at the cooperative and had a reputation for returning them stronger than the rider expected. She started playing basketball to stop Rox’s pickup games from becoming five simultaneous solo drives. Her first contribution was to stand still exactly where somebody needed help, then deny she had done anything sentimental.
What drives them
Give the team enough security to be daring while letting people survive small mistakes without her immediately absorbing them.
Allies, rivals & friction
Rox is the organizer Maeve will defend but never flatter. Bruno understands repair as a kind of care. Roxy Bell is a fellow space-maker whose demand for applause makes Maeve laugh; Amara Okoye notices how much she carries.
Room to grow
Can allow a teammate to solve a problem while remaining ready, instead of equating care with taking over.
The signature
Bumper Check
She legally boxes out with her broad back and low hips, then maintains the sealed space through two tiny heel-to-toe adjustments while an opponent makes a ridiculous long trip around her; her hands stay visible and free.
The rules & the counter
She establishes position before contact and keeps both hands free. Her tiny adjustments cannot push or undercut an airborne player. A fast pass away or an opponent who establishes inside position first defeats the seal.
The weakness
A teammate in trouble can draw her away from her own assignment even when the trouble is manageable.
When it works
The celebration
Checks her teammate is clear, then gives the blocked opponent a matter-of-fact shrug.
When it falls apart
The losing reaction
Blames her own position first, occasionally so quickly that the actual mistake escapes discussion.
The constants
Always this character
Powerful naturally athletic 38-year-old white woman, 193 cm, fair freckled skin, mature rectangular face, crow’s feet and broad strong shoulders. Blood-red coiled braids pulled up with long rear braids, black copper-pattern biker bandana, dark eye makeup, ear jewelry, extensive blackwork on arms/neck/calves, stern protective expression. She is a powerful ordinary athlete, not Massive-scale musculature. Protective agency and the established legal positioning limits remain unchanged.
